The Senate is set to consider the impeachment motion of Kericho governor Eric Mutai in plenary following the failure of a motion for the formation of a special committee.
The motion failed to sail through after the leader of minority Senator Stewart Madzayo failed to second it.
The motion for the formation of the committee was sponsored by Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.
“The motion having not been seconded is hereby defeated. “Declared speaker Amason Kingi.
The hearing of the impeachment case in a full plenary session has been scheduled for August 27, 28, and 29, 2025.
The Clerk of the Senate has been ordered to issue formal invitations to the involved parties by tomorrow August 21, require responses by August 25, and circulate all received documents to Senators by the close of business on August 26.
The speaker has warned the senators against discussing the case in public fora.
“The business pertaining to this case shall strictly be conducted within the floor of the house, senators are advised to stick to the material of the case and not other secondary issues.” the speaker ordered.
The grounds against the governor include gross violations of the constitution and laws of Kenya, abuse of office amongst other charges.
