Retired Chief Justice David now says there is ulterior motive behind the Social Health Authority (SHA) pulling down from its website a list detailing payment of claims to hospitals and disabling the Kenya Master Health Facility Registry (KMHFR) making it difficult for the public to verify hospital details and track payments.

According to Maraga Health CS Aden Duale lied to Kenyans that ghost health facilities were shutdown.

The presidential aspirant now wants President William Ruto to take personal responsibility for the payment scandal at the SHA.

“The bulk stops with his office, he encouraged Kenyans to sign up to SHA. Nothing happens in SHA without his knowledge. “Maraga has said.

Maraga has called for the resignation of Aden Duale saying the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission should investigate the alleged loss of funds at SHA.

“Monies lost must be recovered, and those responsible must be prosecuted and not protected,” he said.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on his part has defended SHA saying it will fight fraud better than its predecessor National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Kindiki praised the authority’s systems, highlighting their focus on prevention and early detection.

“SHA, unlike the defunct NHIF, is effectively detecting fraud. While NHIF faced challenges, SHA aims to strengthen its ability to prevent and detect such cases,” the Deputy President said.

SHA has come under sharp focus after reports emerged about claims of of payments the public insurer made to ghost hospitals.
